I have a similar situation, only a hyphen is used in my article numbers (example: 041889-15-14).
Search doesn't work well in 4 places: Global search; on the Product List page (as shown by Michael); Product search (https://prnt.sc/v2elw9); Products table (https://prnt.sc/v2embt or https://prnt.sc/v2empq)
